Our school was invited to an interview with RTHK on the topic 'Learning through reaching out to the community', during which Principal Ms Wong Lee Lee, Mr Frankie Chan (English teacher who initiated the activity), student participants Fong Wing Lok and Lee Hoi Ha shared their views and experience of visiting street sleepers in Hong Kong.
About 30 students participated in this experiential learning activity where they spent two evenings visiting the street sleepers in Kowloon districts last month. They distributed basic necessities and struck up conversations with street sleepers. The activity aims to heighten students' awareness of social issues and foster empathy in them. After the activity, students have gained a better understanding of the needs of the underprivileged and learnt to overcome the barrier of opening a dialogue with strangers.
