Cambridge Model United Nations
2025-02-21

From 30 January to 4 February 2025, 14 F.3 to F.5 Jubileans travelled to the United Kingdom and participated in the Cambridge Model United Nations, with nearly 300 students from across the world for the conference. This year’s theme, “Rethinking Global Solidarity: Including the Excluded”, sparked powerful discussions as delegates from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Turkey, the USA, and the UK took on the role of UN representatives, debating real-world challenges and working together to develop solutions.

The event kicked off with an inspiring lecture about the geopolitical landscape in the global new normal era by Mo Tanweer, Economist and Lecturer, and Consultant at the University of Cambridge, and the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

Jubileans then stepped into the roles of diplomats representing various countries. Throughout the conference, they actively participated in debates, proposed motions, and formulated resolutions in different United Nations committees, collaborating with delegations from diverse countries. The MUN experience not only deepens participants' understanding of international relations but also equips them with essential life skills valuable in personal and professional contexts. By simulating the complexities of diplomacy, Jubileans emerge as more informed global citizens, prepared to engage with the world's pressing challenges. In particular, Clarice Yeung from 4D was notably awarded an Honourable Mention for her outstanding performance in the Commission on the Status of Women.

Jubileans also took the opportunity to broaden their horizon in terms of the culture and history of Britain. Through the amazing Cambridge punting, Jubileans learnt the interesting history and the college life of the Cambridge University. They also travelled to London for a day tour, including attending the changing of the King Guard at Buckingham Palace as well as visiting the British Museum. The journey to the Cambridge Model United Nations was not just an educational experience but a transformative one for the Jubileans. Engaging in diplomatic simulations, exploring new cultures, and connecting with peers from around the globe has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on each participant. Until the next journey, we express our heartfelt gratitude to all who made this experience possible.
