At the height of summer, from July 28 to August 1, the Bishop Hall Jubilee School’s Choir, consisting of 70 members and 7 teachers, embarked on a vibrant journey to Singapore. They participated in the 2024 8th Singapore International Choral Festival (SICF), along with a friendly performance, all tied together by the joy of music.
During the friendly concert, our choir connected with choral groups around the globe. Through music, they forged friendships that transcended cultural differences and geographical boundaries. In the competitions, the Bishop Hall Jubilee School’s Choir shone brightly, earning a Gold Award in the A2 Equal Voices category (Age 17 & Under) and a Silver Award in the B1 Mixed Voices category (Age 19 & Under).
The repertoire included “秋天”, “A Bright New Sunny Day”, “I got a robe”, “橄欖樹”, “獅子山下留” and “At the Round Earth’s Imagined Corners”. Each piece showcased unique styles and characteristics. Notably, 《獅子山下留》, composed by 伍卓賢, captured the undying spirit of Cantonese culture and the resilient and persevering mentality of Hongkongers on an international stage.
Their performance created unforgettable moments, leaving both audience and choristers with lasting memories filled with harmonies that resonated deeply.
Behind the scenes, it was heartwarming to see choristers dedicating themselves to every rehearsal even during the holidays.A special gratitude to the conductor Mr. Ng Man Fai, whose patience and guidance were essential in nurturing this vibrant choir.
Beyond rehearsals, they also took their time to explore Singapore’s stunning sights and delectable cuisine. They visited the Gardens by the Bay, Chinatown, and the iconic Merlion Park, savoring famous dishes like Bak Kut Teh while sharing laughter along the way.
At every stop along the way, the best part was the friendships they built with one another. A heartfelt thank you goes to the 7 teachers who dedicated their time and efforts to support this journey. Without their unwavering dedication and support, this journey would not have been possible.
Lastly, may our choir flourish in the years to come, creating their own remarkable chapters ahead.
