B-Sharp's 5th Anniversary Celebration Performance
2024-07-22

On the evening of July 20th, following the Annual Concert on the evening of July 16th this year, the school hall once again gathered over 200 audience to enjoy the wonderful performance by the alumni choir B-Sharp. The audience gathered to enjoy the boundless vitality brought by the choral music.

This concert was a celebration performance for the 5th anniversary of the establishment of B-Sharp. The concert was themed “城結” (The Knot of Hong Kong), using Mandarin, English, Spanish and Cantonese to express the various emotional connections in Hong Kong. The repertoire included "The Deer's Cry", "The Music Of Stillness", "Amor De Mi Alma", "你的名字 我的姓氏", "愛情樹", "聖誕夜", "何家小雞何家猜", and "也斯說". The pieces were conducted by five different alumni, including Mr Boris Ng conducting "聖誕夜" to recount historical events in Hong Kong, and Mr. Brendan Wong conducting "你的名字 我的姓氏” to express Hong Kong love stories.

The highlight of the evening was the world premiere of "香港結" composed and conducted by Mr. Jack Yau. "香港結" took the chapter "梅雨" from the collection "鄉愁" by poet Mr. Yu Kwang-chung, using the geographic features of Hong Kong to express the sentiment of nostalgia shared by all. Yau utilized various choral possibilities and Cantonese lyrics to present the hopeless entanglement and inseparable nature of the "dead knot" and "bondage", bringing a touching moment to the audience.

Before the end of the concert, B-Sharp presented "那天一個衝動我加入合唱團" and "不散" for the audience. Conductor Mr. Leonard Chow used "那天一個衝動我加入合唱團" to recount how the choir members first encountered choral music at Bishop Hall Jubilee School, and how they regathered at the school after graduating and going their separate ways. "不散", conducted by Ms. Hephzibah Chang, expressed the hope that B-Sharp can never disperse and continue writing the story of the choir through choral music.

As all the musical pieces concluded, the concert ended with enthusiastic applause, thanking all the principals, teachers, students, alumni, and friends who attended the concert. Special thanks were given to renowned lyricist Ms Serena Tong for attending despite her busy schedule, as well as Music Panel Mr. Alston Ng for his staunch support, and all the teachers and students who contributed behind the scenes to make the B-Sharp concert a success. With your dedication, B-Sharp was able to perform smoothly. We look forward to gathering again at the next alumni choir performance.
