On April 25, 2024, some F.4. selected students participated in the opening ceremony and workshop of the Fact Check Information Literacy Exhibition; an educational exhibition organized by the Hong Kong Baptist University. Apart from that, some F.2. and F.3. students have been selected to take part in the workshop of this exhibition on May 10, 2024, the last day of the exhibition.

The exhibition had drilled down into the importance of fact-checking and how we can fact-check the information obtained from the internet, which contains a myriad of information. The exhibition introduced software to check whether the photos were generated by artificial intelligence. Fascinated by the mind-blowing face-swapping software, which shows the reality of AI, students learned that AI products can confuse people’s determination to distinguish whether they are AI or real people.

Our students were interviewed by Ming Pao. One of them said the exhibition had cultivated his idea about fact-checking, and he would use the software introduced in the workshop in his life. Another student said that there had been an increasing amount of fake information online, and this workshop had really given him insights and helped him gain a better understanding of the topic of information security and authenticity.

We extend our gratitude to our principal, Miss Law, and our ICT teacher, Miss Yau, our MCNE teacher Mr. Elvis Lam for leading our students to this exhibition, as well as Hong Kong Baptist University for organizing this event. We hope our students can apply what they have learned in the exhibition. Living in an age of multifarious information, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
