After a whole week of intensive training sessions, members of the English Debating Team claimed victory in the 3rd preliminary round of the Sing Tao Inter-school Competition on 11th February 2023.
The Sing Tao Inter-school Competition is known as one of the harshest and most challenging debate competitions due to the single-elimination system and the difficult motions.
The EDT Sing Tao team (5C Eugenie Chan, 5D Louis Ngan, 4D Nathan Ng, 4D Simeon Suen) debated on the motion “The Hong Kong government allowing citizens to withdraw part of their MPF contributions for first-time property purchases brings more harm than good.” and won unanimously against Diocesan Girls’ School. Besides, 5D Louis Ngan won both awards for best debater and best interrogative debater. The hard work of the debaters and coaches can definitely be seen.
Our English Debating Team will now be ascending to the next round of the competition, the quarter-finals. Let’s hope that the team can continue shining in upcoming competitions!
