Our team of Form 5 students (Sam Chan, Kayden Leung, Edwin Cheung, and Moon Lin) has been awarded a Merit Award in the Hong Kong Greater China Innovation Competition 2024. The students developed a plastic collection machine called the “Plastic Muncher,” which can identify plastic bottles from other plastic waste using fluorescence and subsequently crush the bottles into smaller pieces. This innovation leads to significant reductions in installation costs and waste volume.
On January 25, 2025, our students were invited to visit RTHK along with other prize winners. The program host, Dr. Justin Yip, conducted a mini workshop on radio program hosting for the students. Subsequently, they toured various departments of RTHK to gain insights into its daily operations and had the opportunity to participate in an interview with Dr. Yip. Among the diverse prize-winning projects, the Plastic Muncher received praise from the hosts. Their commendation has bolstered our students’ confidence and resolve to refine their inventions, with the hope that their innovation can be economically implemented to address the issue of plastic waste.
